I didn’t get a chance to post this yesterday, but Michael Mahemoff (one of the of Ajaxians) had me on his latest Ajax functionality and usability podcast about page architecture patterns. We discussed several Ajax patterns including pop-up, virtual workspace and portlet.

WebVisions is starting to wind down now. It has been a real whirl wind from the six hour drive in the middle of the night to last nights debauchery! Oh yeah there were some good presentations too

It was good to finally meet a few people like Bill and Nate from over at Yahoo! - although Bill’s presentation was highly over-subscribed and I could not get in. Not to mention all the people that stopped by the booth.

It may not be that useful without the speaking, but here are the slides from my talk.

It’s official. We have _finally_ changed our name to Nitobi from the ever difficult to remember and google “eBusiness Applications”. We are slowing moving the brand over and the blogs will eventually change but I will let everyone know when it happens and try to make the transition as smooth as possible.

The name comes from a garden here in Vancouver (said to be the most authentic Japanese Tea Garden in North America) that is named after Dr. Inazo Nitobe who spent much of his life bridging the Japanese and North America cultures.

As for the logo, that is not only similar to the mathematical symbol for Pie (3.141592…). But most importantly it represents a part of our Canadian heritage, which is the inukshuk. Inukshuks were/are used as directional markers by the Inuit of the Canadian arctic.

I would love to hear people’s feedback about it!

I haven’t blogged much as of late due to the unusually large (well maybe just normal) amount of work to be done around here. Grid 3.2 is getting dialed and we are really trying to make a big push to improve the stability and the our entire component platform.

Anyways, in a few spare moments this morning I was perusing Craigslist, as you do, in search of a few things ranging from a turntable to an old blender to a bike trailer … or anything in between. I haven’t been on for a while and generally ignore the links along the top of the posts trying to get people to download firefox or report bad posts etc. I looked at that today and noticed that one of the links there is to a Google search about Peak Oil. Of course for those that don’t know, peak oil is the idea that oil is a non-renewable resource and will therefore eventually be used up. This is destined to happen sooner than later and will really put a monkey wrench in the machinery of capitalism, which literally runs on oil.

It is nice to see that Craigslist is keeping it real! I sure hope that Craig either cycles to work at the very least uses a clean fuel car (and that does not include the ones that are charged with electricity generated by burning coal out in Nevada).
