PhoneGap Simulator Update | November 3rd, 2009

You can download the latest simulator from this page.

Some major PhoneGap simulator update along with two new skins (Sony Ericsson Satio & Rachael). By default, the skin size is set to 100% according to the screen resolution. This may be too big for some monitors, so a new feature has been added to scale the skin (x1~0.25x).

In the source, I have updated the skinning stuff a bit so it is entirely configured in settings.xml. This will make adding new skins a lot easier and faster.

Also, if there is a request for new skins (WebKit enabled phone only) to add, this might be a good opportunity for me to ask. No guarantee that it’s going to be added, but it would be useful to know if there is a high demand on certain device that is not currently included PhoneGap Simulator. I’ll take the request as a comment to this post.

BOOST (iPhone Game) | April 22nd, 2009

I’ve been working on a game called BOOST and here is the game description:

You’re the pilot of Space Octopus, a shiny metallic badass spaceship, stranded in the middle of a solar galaxy system far far away. In order to escape this madness, you need to cruise through asteroids, space people and such, and journey back to your mother planet. Here is the conflict: you only have limited fuel. To make things worse, no one can hear you scream in the milky way of star clusters. Luckily, like any other space galaxy, there are fuel cells floating in the vacuum of space. You need to keep collecting these to keep your spaceship running. Get it before they get to you! Remember, no one can hear you scream in space.

I apologize for the grammar in the game description. It’s intentional (or is it?)

PhoneGap AIR Simulator in development | April 1st, 2009

PhoneGap AIR Simulator is specifically made for testing PhoneGap projects, and go beyond Apple’s iPhone simulator as well as supporting Android application development and Blackberry. As this is an Adobe AIR application, it can run on Mac, Windows and Linux.

One of the key feature is the accelerometer console powered by Papervision. You can tilt/rotate a virtual iPhone in 3D space which passes simulated X/Y/Z accelerometer value to the navigator in phonegap.js. Above screenshot is a sample demo game that I made with HTML/javascript/CSS and PhoneGap which you can try out in the simulator demo below. Tilt The simulator also detects certain PhoneGap javascript methods such as “vibrate()” or “sound()” which gets translated into an action in AIR.

In the near future, we are adding:
- Geolocation console - uses Google Maps API to simulate GPS values
- Firebug Lite integration

These downloads are only to show work in progress and is not ready for actual testing of PhoneGap projects, but stay tuned fore more updates!
