I’m lazy…your eCommerce site should be too!
July 4th, 2007
When it comes to online registration anyway…as Michael Mahemoff puts it:
Let me add to the cart before logging in Do you really think I’m going to go through registration just to add a product my cart, when I don’t know I’m purchasing yet? See Lazy Registration.
This applies to much more than eCommerce sites. Check out how ridiculous it seems when a salesperson asks for too much personal info up front at a real store.
The crew at ElasticPath have done a great job relating real world shopping to the online experience in these vids. Just goes to show we could all benefit from a little common sense and thought when it comes to online user experience.

Glad you are digging the vids Capn’n Ajax! For the record though … while i understand your desire for efficiency whilst shopping online, i would hardly call a guy who recreates with the fury, variety and vigor that you do “lazy,” convenience-inclined perhaps, but not “lazy.”
I know your routine … climb the Chief in the morning, ski glaciers in the afternoon and swill bevvies all night (while managing to write some code somewhere in between it all).
PS Found a unique and rustic campground up your way in Squamish Valley for Canada Day weekend – great to get back to basics after too much time in NYC, London and other centres of “civilization.”
