Took this pic on a trip to Whistler a couple weeks ago. I couldn’t resist posting it. The guy in the photo had to wait with the van, apparently it was actually his boss who crashed it:) Important to note he the was parked about 10ft away and went from 0 to stuck on a barrier in that distance! Too much apres ski maybe?
And now back to your normal AJAX programming…
Come Gab about AJAX with me!
March 29th, 2006
Just found this cool new web IM client, Gabbly, that integrates with any web page. Has some nice AJAX sprinkled in and neat way of attaching to anyway web page.
Chat with me the embedded version above, or in a seperate window here.
You can use it with any site for free! Just add ‘gabbly.com/’ in front of any URL.

EBA Grid 3 Alpha is cross browser!
March 29th, 2006
Dave gave the first tip of the hand last night, now there’s content on Nitobi Labs. Mozilla here we come! It would hard to describe how excited we are about this!
Some of the new features we’ve labored over:
- Mozilla compatibility
- Live Scrolling
- Inline editing
- Keyboard navigation
- Frozen rows and columns
- Declarative programming
- AJAX goodness
And Joel has been rocking the .Net 2.0 + 1.1 support as well as VS 2005 support which be in the final release. Let’s not forget our JAVA support that’s coming down the pipe either JSF + Eclipse support to start with thanks to Godfrey. I’ve been told on several occasions that the quality and bug visibility will be our best yet thanks to Jake’s QA wizardry. Make sure to give us your feedback in Alexei’s kick ass new Nitobi Feedback Panel…that is once you get your hands on it.
This is a closed Alpha for our customers, but if you email us nicely, or blog to us we’ll likely swing you a copy of it.

Update: It didn’t really, they said it was just accidentally deleted and someone registered a blog with the same address. Kinda funny. User Error.
Environmental Defense Video Ads
March 23rd, 2006
A great ad to gain awareness on issues surrounding global warming. This was put together by the team at Environmental Defense.
They have another video ad called Tick. Hard call which has more impact, I like the surprise of the train video myself.
Get involved and do something! If you’re a Vancouverite, like I am there, are a number of things you can. I’ll just pass on a couple of links to cool projects and groups: 30 Days of Sustainability, BalleBC, Social Tech Brewing and CBSR.
Thanks to my good friend Kira March from Environmental Defense for the tip. I hope some more active bloggers like Kris, Boris, Sarah, Will or Roland pick this up cuz it’s great stuff! Spread that link love for the planet people!

Here’s what you may learn:
New BALLE BC Site!
March 8th, 2006
Balle BC has a new website! Props to Andrew Hale and IfPeople. Also, I attended the gala dinner for the 30Days of Sustainability event last night. I’m still not quite sure what the point of a gala dinner is, didn’t even seem that social. The comedians were funny and it was nice see they at least tried to do the 100 mile diet concept. I guess they were only 80% succesful though. Progress…
What did AJAX say to Flex?
March 8th, 2006
“You got my back?” And guess how Flex replied: “sure do man. Let’s go make some kick ass rich online user interfaces together!”
There are obviously times when a pure AJAX app is mandatory and there are times when FLEX all the way makes sense, but we should really look at how the leading RIA technologies can play together. Adobe gets it!
I just finished watching the recorded screencast meeting they had yesterday where they demoed the Flex AJAX Bridge (FABridge).
Some of the comments from the participants include: excellent, This is rad!!, nice!, this is so sweet. “tommy likey. tommy want wingy.”, sweet!, cool, Very impressive!, Nice work!….you get the point;-)
We’re going to playing with Flex a lot more in the months to come. First off expect to see integration with Flex Charting component and our AJAX Grid. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg.
More info: Ely’s Demo and blog post. More coverage by Ajaxian and Dave Johnson
