I’m headed south again on Wednesday should be fun and very interesting. Dave’s going to talk about the Flex / AJAX Demo we put together with the FABridge. It will be available for download soon in Nitobi Labs. We’re working on our Flex/Flash integration as well as our roadmap around building full on Flex components.

I’m then headed over to BarCamp SF to hang with the bay area geeks. All seems like it’s going to be a lot of fun. Thanks Chris for making this event happen. I’m looking forward to learning lots and getting some tips for organizing BarCamp Vancouver.

Some Apollo screenshots Ryan posted from the Digital Backcountry.

I got an in person tour from Mike Chambers last month when I was hanging at the Adobe headquarters in SF and I was very impressed. Chromeless windows, full screen video, transparency and more all developed in Flex and running on the desktop with access to local resources. I mean really these simple Apollo demos are basically as slick and nice looking as the Vista demos, I really hope Adobe can get this out before January when Vista ships. I’m very passionate about how the AJAX/HTML stuff was going to happen so more on that as I learn…let’s work with the open standards!
So maybe I little over excited…but it’s pretty cool the possibilities this opens up. All those web developers now able to build connected desktop apps…

Just watched Duane and Dion disect Web 2.0. A great chat about the evolution of Web 2.0, patterns the synchronized web, AJAX and some other interesting points. I’m always impressed with the way Duane can cover a technical topic in detail, then fly to high level overview and then provide an easy to understand story or anecdote. I think it’s important for an evangelist to be able to do this, so evangelists and analysts take note! Funny after rockin’ out with Duane on the weekend, ah the tangled lives we all lead… Duane and Dion are both very knowledgeable in the space and it shows. Come on guys and gals let’s get started discussing those patterns! Or anti-patterns…

And thanks for the Captain AJAX plug;-) Yes INTEROPERABILITY is key, the Ajax industry needs to grow up and stop this not invented here crap! Duane knows from experience in the SOA world that it’s very hard to get a technical industry or community of practice to come together and agree on standards that matter. Someone with his experience could be very valuable in the Open AJAX Alliance. He help us short through the crud and stop BS like SOA 2.0 cold!

Interested in learning about building AJAX user interfaces on top of Java? 

Dave Johnson, our illustrious CTO will be giving a “JAVA and AJAX development” webinar for Jupiter Media (developer.com) on June 14. I’ve seen his preliminary slide deck and it looks like he’ll be talking a fair amount about DWR, some MVC issues, Hibernate (I think) – and more importantly some testing and QA issues.

Godfrey just joined the JCP and JSR 273.  The title of this spec is “Design-Time API for JavaBeansTM JBDT”.  What that means to us common folk is they’re trying to standardize how components integrate with development tools (IDEs) like NetBeans or Java Studio Creator.  It will determine how for example user interface components, such our Nitobi AJAX Components, can be dragged into a web page and then configured via dialogue windows, wizards and property editors.  This is very exciting as it will help us deliver components and tools to developers so that they can quickly build kick-ass Ajax UIs on top of Java without writing any code!  Yeehaa!  Tor Norbye from Sun is the lead on this JSR and was a driving force behind Creator, I’m looking to seeing the efforts from this group.

Dave’s already a member of JSR 276, so we’re excited to be contributing more to the community!
